A thirty five minute walk across the fields, from Garden Cottage, will bring you to the charming lakeside fishing village of Garykennedy.

Garykennedy is widely renowned for its sessions of traditional Irish music which are a regular attraction at Larkin's (formerly the Barge Inn). Larkin's is also a popular and highly regarded eating establishment.

Killaloe, which is another delightful fishing and boating centre is located at the southern tip of Lough Derg, on the River Shannon. Killaloe is 8 miles south west of Garden Cottage, on the road to Cork and Shannon.

Across the Shannon, from Killaloe, is Ballina. Ballina is a resort centre with many fine tourist amenities, including a hotel and boat hire facilities.
Ballina also has Goosers "Bar and Eating House" which specialises in the finest of traditional Irish food. Goosers has earned a reputation as "one of the most distinguished licensed premises in Ireland".
