Celia Keegan is an artistic ceramist whose hillside studio overlooks Lough Derg on the River Shannon in the South West of Ireland. Her interest in flowers has its origins in her early days in the highlands of Kenya where every kind of flower and shrub flourishes in tropical profusion all year round.

Moving to Europe in 1972, she studied the art of high-fired porcelain in London, before setting up her studio in county Tipperary. Her special talent in hand crafting beautiful floral arrangements was further developed at the Limerick School of Art and design. This is reflected in her work which not only represents well known flower species, but also many designs and representations which reflect her artistic interpretations of nature.

One of the more striking features of the work is a unique and lovely range of delicate pastel colours, achieved only after endless and detailed experimentation. The flowers are all handmade, each individual petal and leaf hand moulded and formed in raw porcelain clay, before been put together and assembled into a complete arrangement The arrangements are fired up to 1,300°C and several subsequent firings are necessary to achieve the desired effect.
